Executive summary: The SOS Children’s Village provides a home for 85,000 orphaned, abandoned and destitute children in a family environment in 132 countries. It was founded by Dr Hermann Gmeiner in Imst, Austria in 1949. (The first SOS Children’s Village in Nigeria was built in Isolo, Lagos State, in 1970).
