Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice

Executive summary: The Heart of Gold Children’s Hospice was founded in 2003 by Mrs Laja Adedoyin. It is the first and presently the only hospice in Nigeria. It is a home for the care and management of children with mental and physical disabilities. It also offers home care services to children with these disabilities living at home.
14 of the children suffer from cerebral palsy, 4 were born blind and paralysed, 3 are HIV positive, 3 suffer from hydrocephalus and 6 have no known disability. Some of these children were found abandoned in marketplaces, refuse dumps, canals, hospitals, gutters, etc. The home has children on its waiting list.

- Debbie Adedoyin – She is 3 months old. She was abandoned by her mum at age 3 days. She is HIV positive.
- Sarah Adedoyin – She is 14 months old. She was found at a refuse dump. She suffers from insomnia, cerebral palsy and spinal bifida.
